Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has opened up about a painful betrayal she experienced at the hands of her trusted friends.
Speaking during an episode of Iriri Mi, a podcast hosted by fellow actress Bimpe Akintunde, Shokoya recounted how those she once considered close spread damaging rumours about her marriage.
She disclosed that these friends accused her husband of using “jazz” to manipulate her into marrying him, claiming she had been placed under a spell.
Despite the emotional toll of the betrayal, the actress said she has now embraced peace and contentment in her life. According to her, she has accepted her reality and surrendered completely.
“My husband is my best friend. My son, my family, and my husband’s family—they are all I need,” she said.
Reflecting further, Debbie shared that she now believes the loss of those friendships was divinely orchestrated to protect her from harm and stagnation. She said their continued presence might have jeopardized her marriage or left her life without purpose.
“Those I called my people… the same ones who said I was hypnotised—were my friends. People I trusted. But today, I realise I have no one left. And you know what? I surrender.

But God stepped in and cleared the path. And I’m thankful.
As I entered this year, I told God I wouldn’t try to control anything. I handed it all over to Him. And truly, He has brought meaning into my life.”
Shokoya’s emotional revelation has resonated with many fans, drawing support and admiration for her strength and spiritual insight.
