Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after lawmakers delivered a unanimous voice vote during the Committee of the Whole.

Oyedele, the immediate past chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, is set to assume the role of Minister of State for Finance, succeeding Doris Uzoka-Anite.

Business/Economy: CBN restricts banking services for non-performing loan debtors

NRTC WEEKLY learnt that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directed banks to restrict access to certain banking services for large-ticket borrowers with non-performing loans.

The directive, contained in a letter sent to all banks dated March 12, 2026, states that borrowers whose loan facilities are classified as non-performing will no longer be eligible to access additional credit facilities.

The measure applies to loans recorded in the Credit Risk Management System or any licensed private credit bureau, according to the apex bank.

The CBN said the restriction aims to limit the risks posed by large-ticket obligors whose loan defaults could threaten the stability of the banking sector.

Affected borrowers shall also not be granted banking facilities or contingent liabilities such as bankers’ confirmations, letters of credit, performance bonds, or advance payment guarantees.

Leading Stories: Dangote Refinery slashes petrol price by N100 to N1,075 after recent hikes

NRTC WEEKLY reported that Dangote Petroleum Refinery reduced its ex-depot price for Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) by N100, with the refinery now selling at N1,075 per litre.

The reduction from N1,175 marks the first downward adjustment after several increases recorded in recent days, according to the refinery’s latest pricing template released on Tuesday.

The gantry price of Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel, has also been reduced to N1,430 per litre, a N190 drop from the earlier price of N1,620.

The price cut follows a period of sharp increases, with the refinery having raised the price to N1,175 on Monday, marking the third upward adjustment within a week.

The recent hikes came after the refinery suspended petrol loading operations and restricted truck-out activities, fueling speculation about imminent price adjustments.

Sports: Nigerian goalkeeper Obasogie cleared as club reverses match-fixing suspension

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that Amas Obasogie has been cleared of match-fixing allegations after an investigation by Singida Black Stars. The Tanzanian club reversed his suspension following its internal probe.

Just last month, NRTC reported the goalkeeper had been banned for three months. The announcement came after concerns over suspicious incidents during a match.

However, the club later reviewed all available evidence, and investigators ultimately found no proof of gambling or match manipulation.

Investigation finds technical errors rather than wrongdoing by Super Eagles goalkeeper. In an official statement, the club explained the outcome of its findings. The statement noted “no evidence of match-fixing or gambling” involving the player.
