African football is mourning the loss of Nigerian-born Beninese striker Razak Omotoyossi, whose death was confirmed on Tuesday by his former Swedish club, Helsingborgs IF.

A hero in Benin’s golden era

Omotoyossi is most fondly remembered for his dazzling form during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. On one historic night, he scored all four goals in Benin’s 4-1 victory over rivals Togo. That remarkable feat helped him finish as joint top scorer of the qualifiers, sharing the spotlight with legendary striker Samuel Eto’o.
