Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to economic empowerment, with a specific focus on women and young adults.

The governor, represented by the First Lady, Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, made this statement at the Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI) programme, which was held at the LTV Complex in Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the initiative is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to poverty reduction through skills acquisition, which is a key component of its vision for an inclusive economy.

By empowering women and young people, the government aims to create sustainable livelihoods and foster a more prosperous Lagos.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Bolaji Dada, praised the MESI program for its role in reducing unemployment and strengthening community resilience.

She noted that the initiative is a “practical outcome of a vision that empowers citizens to take charge of their future.”

Dada added that the government is committed to expanding the program to benefit more Lagos residents.

The Permanent Secretary, Rianat Onigbanjo, expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his continuous support of WAPA’s empowerment initiatives.

She urged the beneficiaries to utilise their newly acquired skills and resources productively and to become “ambassadors of self-reliance.”

The Micro Enterprise Support Initiative has provided technical skills, start-up kits, and mentorship to thousands of graduates from WAPA’s skills acquisition centres.

The training covers various vocations, including fashion design, catering, carpentry, and ICT, equipping beneficiaries with the necessary tools to become financially independent.

Through this initiative, the state government has demonstrated its resolve to tackle poverty by providing opportunities for residents across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas.
