The Socio-Economic Right and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded that the federal government reverse the unlawful increase in the electricity Tariff from N66 to N225.

In a statement released via its official channels on Wednesday, SERAP demanded the immediate reversal of the tariff hike.
The organization emphasized the need to uphold the integrity of the judicial process and the rule of law, urging the Tinubu administration to halt the increase pending the resolution of the lawsuit filed by SERAP on the matter.
SERAP had previously warned of legal action against the government over its plans to raise the electricity tariff back in February.

Despite these warnings, the Tinubu-led government proceeded with its decision and officially approved the tariff increase on Wednesday, April 3rd, specifically targeting Band A electricity consumers.
Expressing outrage at this development, SERAP reiterated its intention to pursue legal recourse against the government.

The organization declared its readiness to challenge the arbitrary increase in electricity tariff, stressing the adverse impact it would have on citizens amidst challenging economic conditions.
“The Tinubu administration must reverse the apparently unlawful increase in electricity tariff from N66 to N225 pending the hearing and determination of the suit we filed on the matter to protect the integrity of the judicial process and the rule of law,” SERAP stated.
