Nigeria’s Super Falcons have moved up one place to 36th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, consolidating their dominance as Africa’s highest‑ranked team.
The ranking, published by FIFA on Tuesday, April 21, reflects the team’s performances in recent international friendlies and underscores their readiness for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which doubles as qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Falcons’ modest rise followed two pre‑WAFCON friendlies against Cameroon. Nigeria lost the first game 1–0 in February but responded three days later with a 3–1 victory in March.
Chinwendu Ihezuo and Rinsola Babajide struck in the first half, before Michelle Alozie sealed the win in the 64th minute with a header from captain Ajibade’s cross.

The victory lifted Nigeria’s points tally to 1602, though still slightly below the 1607 recorded in December 2025.
Despite this, the Falcons remain firmly ahead of their continental rivals, South Africa (58th), Ghana (59th), and Morocco (62nd).

Globally, Spain continue to lead the rankings, followed by the USA, England, Germany, and Japan.
As 10‑time African champions, the Super Falcons’ steady climb reinforces their reputation as the continent’s powerhouse in women’s football.
With WAFCON approaching, the team’s blend of experience and youthful energy will be crucial in maintaining their global standing and securing qualification for the 2027 World Cup.
