Taylor Swift, known for her global stardom and self-described as a “childless cat lady,” has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
On Tuesday, Swift expressed her support for Harris and running mate Tim Walz over Donald Trump, calling Harris a “steady-handed, gifted leader.”
In an Instagram post following the first televised debate of the campaign, Swift announced, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift’s decision to endorse came after seeing AI-generated images falsely claiming she supported Trump, which prompted her to clarify her stance to combat misinformation.
The post featured Swift encouraging her followers to do their research before making a decision.
While she refrained from explicitly telling fans to vote for Harris, she shared her reasoning and added a voter registration link to her Instagram stories.
Swift also praised Walz for his long-standing support of LGBTQ+ rights and women’s reproductive rights.
Swift’s involvement in politics has been sporadic, with her remaining mostly silent until 2018, when she endorsed a Democratic candidate in Tennessee.
Since then, she has supported various progressive causes, including Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign and LGBTQ+ rights, while also criticizing the Supreme Court’s reversal of abortion rights.
Swift’s endorsement of Harris generated significant attention online, garnering over two million “likes” shortly after it went live.
Although she typically avoids political discussions, her influence as a pop culture icon and her passionate fan base make her political statements highly impactful.
