Oyo govt orders traders, artisans to leave walkways and roadsides

The Oyo State Government has issued a directive ordering traders, artisans, motor dealers, and roadside vendors to vacate pedestrian walkways and road shoulders or risk facing sanctions.

The warning was delivered on Friday by the Chairman of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Major Adesagba Adekoya (retd), at his office in the state secretariat, Ibadan.

“Using walkways for business is illegal and creates traffic bottlenecks, accidents, and inconvenience for shoppers,” Adesagba said.

He highlighted areas such as the University of Ibadan axis, Samonda, and Mokola as hotspots for illegal roadside trading.

“Traders are required to relocate to designated market spaces immediately, especially during the festive period,” he added, cautioning that those who fail to comply would face fines and possible court action.

The state government praised OYRTMA for its ongoing work in maintaining road safety and public order, reaffirming its commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring smooth movement across the state.
