FA charge Chelsea and West Ham after stoppage-time meltdown

Chelsea and West Ham United have both been charged by The Football Association (FA) following disorderly scenes at the weekend. The incident overshadowed the home side’s dramatic late Premier League victory.

The Blues’ 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge spiralled into chaos during stoppage time. Tempers flared as players from both sides became involved in a mass confrontation.

The flashpoint occurred when Joao Pedro reacted angrily to Adama Traore’s shove on Marc Cucurella. That exchange triggered an ugly brawl involving several players.

Referee Anthony Taylor was forced to halt proceedings as VAR reviewed the incident. Tensions remained high as officials attempted to restore order.

West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo was later shown a straight red card. The dismissal followed a lengthy review of his actions in the melee.

Announcing the decision, Taylor said: “After review, West Ham number 25 (Todibo) grabs Chelsea number 20 (Joao Pedro) round the throat in a violent manner. Therefore my final decision is a red card, violent conduct.”

The fallout continued after full-time with formal charges issued by the FA. Both clubs were found in breach of player conduct regulations.

According to football.london, Chelsea’s players were deemed “improper and/or provocative” during the confrontation. West Ham’s players were labelled “improper and/or provocative and/or violent.”

The governing body confirmed both clubs are required to respond to the charges. Each side has until Friday to submit their explanations.

Chelsea held on for victory, but celebrations were muted by the post-match developments. West Ham, meanwhile, were left frustrated by both result and repercussions.

The FA will review submissions before deciding on possible sanctions. Further punishment could follow depending on the clubs’ responses.
