The Baale of Yawota Community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has disclosed that parents and families of pupils, students, and teachers abducted by armed men turned down food items and cash brought by government representatives who visited to sympathise with them after the incident.

He said the affected families made it clear that their only concern was the safe return of their children and relatives, not any form of material support.

According to him, armed attackers stormed the community, shooting indiscriminately while abducting schoolchildren and teachers.

โ€œThey took away little children and continued shooting during the attack,โ€ he said.

The traditional ruler explained that community leaders immediately reported the incident to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) after the attackers left the area.

He added that police officers responded quickly and arrived at the scene, where they were briefed on the development.

The Baale also revealed that government officials later visited the community with rice and cash meant for the affected families, but the offer was rejected.

โ€œThe parents rejected the rice and money. They said what they want is the safe release of their children,โ€ he stated.

He further noted that a delegation of women sent to the community on behalf of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, also visited to commiserate with the families and brought similar relief items.

However, he said the gesture was equally declined.

โ€œThey came with rice and money, but the parents rejected it, saying they only want their children released,โ€ he added.

The attack occurred on May 16 when gunmen invaded the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis of Ogbomoso, abducting pupils, students, and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.

The incident has deepened concerns over insecurity in the region, with residents calling on security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and prevent further attacks on schools and surrounding communities.
