African champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons have commenced preparations for their upcoming international friendly matches against Senegal.
Head coach Justine Madugu has named a 23-player squad for the double-header, with players expected to begin arriving at camp on Monday (today), according to the team’s media officer.
The Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne now becomes the heartbeat of Nigeria’s preparations for the crucial continental assignment.
Both fixtures will be held at the venue with the first match scheduled for Friday, June 5, while the second encounter will take place on Monday, June 8.
The friendlies form part of the two teams’ build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted by Morocco in July.

Nine-time African champions Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and tournament debutants Malawi.

Senegal, meanwhile, will compete in Group A, where they will face hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya. As a result, both sides approach these friendlies with clear competitive urgency.

The 2026 WAFCON finals will also serve as Africa’s qualification tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the four semi-finalists securing automatic qualification for the global showpiece. The stakes could not be higher.
Brazil will host the tenth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup from 24 June to 25 July 2027. That timeline adds further motivation for early preparation.
Interestingly, the Super Falcons are the only African team to have qualified for every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.
