Aiyedatiwa vows to improve welfare for retired civil servants

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has pledged to enhance the welfare and benefits for retired public servants, recognising them as vital to the state’s development.

The governor made these remarks during a meeting with the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries at his office on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Aiyedatiwa expressed his deep respect for the retired officials, acknowledging their invaluable experience and contributions.

He assured the delegation that his administration would consider their requests for the harmonisation and upward review of pensions and other benefits to align with current economic realities.

The governor also promised that the newly constructed secretariat building of the association would be protected during the planned beautification project in Akure.

Additionally, he hinted at the imminent inauguration of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) board.

The association, led by its President, Grace Ajayi, commended the governor’s efforts in reducing state debts and ensuring the timely payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities.

Ajayi also thanked the governor for appointing some of their members to key political positions, including the Civil Service Commission.

The group further offered its continued partnership, providing professional advice on matters of governance, security, and investment. Lawrence Ibukun, the association’s Financial Secretary, reiterated the call for an increase in their benefits.

The meeting was attended by several key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Fasoranti, and the Head of Service, Bayo Philip.
