APC leaders, governors converge on Ado-Ekiti, back Oyebanji for second term

The All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a show of unity in Ekiti State yesterday, as party leaders and governors rallied behind Governor Oyebanji, declaring his re-election bid firmly on course ahead of the June 20 governorship election.

At a well-attended campaign flag-off held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said the governor’s record in office left little room for serious opposition.

Yilwatda described Oyebanji as a consensus builder who had brought together diverse ethnic and political groups across the state.

He pointed to gains in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare and security, noting that these had directly improved everyday life for residents.

According to him, the administration had strengthened social harmony among communities, expanded access to healthcare facilities and driven agricultural output, while sustaining Ekiti’s reputation as one of the more peaceful states in the country.

“The work already done speaks for itself,” he said, expressing confidence that voters would return the governor for another term.

The rally drew an unusually broad coalition of political figures, including former Ekiti governors, Niyi Adebayo, Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi, all of whom appeared in a show of support for the incumbent.

Also speaking, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma said Oyebanji’s leadership had restored cohesion in the state, urging voters to consolidate the progress already made.

He linked the governor’s re-election to continued alignment with the administration of Bola Tinubu.

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who chairs the APC National Campaign Council, highlighted key achievements, including extensive road construction and upgrades to public schools and primary healthcare centres across the state.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele reinforced the campaign’s tone, saying the party would focus on issues and governance rather than divisive rhetoric in the weeks ahead.

In his address, Oyebanji credited federal support for some of the state’s major infrastructure projects, particularly key road networks linking Ado-Ekiti to neighbouring towns.

He urged supporters to turn out in large numbers on election day, setting an ambitious target of 500,000 votes as a demonstration of the state’s backing for his administration.

The event also attracted senior party stakeholders, including the First Lady of Ekiti State, Olayemi Oyebanji, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, and members of the National Assembly, underscoring what party officials described as a well-coordinated push towards the June poll.
