Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has urged his newly appointed media aides to remain measured, professional and responsible in their online engagements as political activities begin to gather pace across the state.
He delivered the message during a one-day review meeting and media training held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.
The session, themed “Public Governance, Political Engagements and the Media: The Nexus,” aimed to strengthen the administration’s communication approach while reinforcing ethical standards.
Speaking on the governor’s behalf, the Secretary to the State Government, Nimibofa Ayawei, commended the media team for promoting government programmes but warned against the rising tension on social media, driven largely by political actors.
He urged the aides to “maintain sanity” in their engagements, stressing that their role should centre on governance and public information rather than fuelling online confrontations.

The Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Obiyai, reinforced the need for coordination and discipline within the media team.

She advised aides to seek proper clearance before sharing sensitive information and to strictly follow established communication channels.

She also warned against independent or unapproved postings, noting that breaches of protocol could attract sanctions.
The training also focused on improving the team’s technical and ethical competence.
Media consultant Klem Ofuokwu spoke on managing government communication in a politically charged environment, while Richard Ogbe led a session on media law, ethics and professionalism, highlighting the legal implications of digital publishing.
At the end of the session, the media aides reaffirmed their support for Diri’s development agenda.
