Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, has died at the age of 71.
He passed away on Friday in Abuja after battling a long-term illness.
The late monarch, who became the 16th Emir of Gusau in 2015 following the death of his father, spent over a decade on the throne.
Before his reign, he served as a top civil servant and rose to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto and Zamfara states.
His death has drawn condolences from across Zamfara and beyond.
The state governor, Dauda Lawal, expressed deep sorrow, describing the late Emir as a supportive father figure who helped guide the state’s leadership.

The governor also noted that the Emir’s leadership brought stability and unity to the emirate during his time in office.
The Emir’s passing is seen as a major loss not only to Zamfara but to northern Nigeria and the country at large.
Many described him as a peaceful ruler who played a quiet but steady role in local development.
Prayers are being offered across the state for the late monarch, with many asking God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
