The Federal High Court sitting in Ogun State on Monday denied bail to controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that prosecutors charged the singer with nine counts bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed this in a statement to journalists.
The presiding judge refused Portable’s bail application after noting the absence of the police officer allegedly assaulted by the singer. The court ruled that it must hear from the officer before considering any bail request.
Portable’s arraignment came after a viral video circulated online showing him in police custody. The arrest reportedly stemmed from a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

Police arrested the singer over allegations linked to an incident that occurred on New Year’s Day at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State. Prosecutors told the court that Portable attacked Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals during the incident.
The prosecution listed the alleged victims as Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. Prosecutors also accused the singer of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola.
In addition, the prosecution alleged that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector while she was carrying out her official duties.
During the proceedings, the court heard testimony from Ashabi’s two siblings, who appeared as witnesses to the alleged assault. Ashabi, however, was absent from the courtroom.
The judge ordered that Portable remain in custody and adjourned the case, fixing January 19 for a fresh hearing on the bail application.
