In the words of American novelist, Ernest Hemingway, āEvery manās life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.ā
This is the case of gospel music icon, Sammie Okposo, who is still being mourned by his family, friends, and fans following his passing on Friday. While many are comforted with the fact that he is in a better place, one cannot rule out the pain of his demise.
Like American screenwriter, Richard Russo said, āLives are like rivers. Eventually they go where they must, not where we want them to.ā Okposo has gone to where many people felt it was too early for him to go to. However, these people are consoled with his service to God while on earth.
Condolences from his colleagues
Some of his colleagues took to social media to express their grief. Nathaniel Bassey wrote, āThe news of our brotherās passing, Minister Sammie Okposo, hit me really hard this morning. (I am) still dazed. I pray for Godās comfort and strength for the immediate family, friends and colleagues.ā
Sinach commented, “Praying for Ozzy and the entire family. Sammy rest in Jesus!” Tope Alabi said, āRest in the bosom of the Lord, Sammie Okposo.ā Chioma Jesus wrote, “Rest in the bosom of the Lord my Wellu Wellu master.”

(I am) shocked and still shocked but we are consoled in the hope that he is alive in the presence of his maker and God. We pray for the comfort of the Holy Ghost for his family and everyone directly affected by his passing. It is well, it is well. Say to the righteous, it is well.ā
Joe Praize wrote, āSo so so difficult to take in but we are comforted because we know you are chilling in heaven. A better place.” Samsong said, “I can’t imagine four seasons without a fall. I will miss you greatly but my heart can never forget you, Sammie Okposo.”
Indian philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, said, āDeath is not extinguishing the light. It is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.ā
Okposo’s dawn has come and the lives he touched are left with his memories. Same is the case of every mortal. Only time differentiates the dawn of one person from another.
