Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, has opened up about his deepest fear, saying he worries more about poverty than death.

He spoke about this during a recent episode of the Nancy Isime Show, where he shared parts of his childhood and the tough moments his family faced while growing up.

Mr P recalled how his family once lived in a crowded one-room boys’ quarters with his parents and seven siblings.

He said the room was divided with a curtain just to make space for everyone. According to him, those early years were very hard, and the memory has stayed with him.

He also recounted the day a bulldozer pulled down their home after the landlord sold the compound.

His family was still inside the building when the demolition began, leaving them confused and helpless.

The singer said those experiences shaped him and made him determined never to return to that level of lack.

He said, “I am not afraid of death. The only thing I am afraid of in this life is poverty, of being broke.

“I have tasted it [poverty] before. I have been in our house with my parents and siblings and a bulldozer came and demolished it.

“We were living in a boys’ quarter, me, my mum, my dad, all of us. The whole family, six boys and two girls living in a one-bedroom apartment. They had to divide the room with a curtain. So, the landlord had sold the compound, we were trying to plead to get some time to plan our relocation and then a bulldozer came and started demolishing the house while we were still in the building.”
