Legendary Wrestler Terry Funk is dead

American professional wrestler, Terry Funk, has died at the age of 79.

The death of Funk, who had wrestled for numerous major promotions was announced by WWE star Ric Flair, on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.

Ric Flair described Funk who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame alongside his brother in 2009 by the late Dusty Rhodes as a hardworking, great wrestler, entertainer, and unbelievably fearless.

He wrote, “In My Entire Life, I’ve Never Met A Guy Who Worked Harder. Terry Funk Was A Great Wrestler, Entertainer, Unbelievably Fearless, And A Great Friend! 

“Rest In Peace My Friend Terry Funk Knowing That No One Will Ever Replace You In The World Of Professional Wrestling!”

Funk made his wrestling debut in 1965, forming a successful tag team with his brother and fellow WWE Hall of Famer, Dory Funk, Jr. before retiring in 2017.

In 1975, he defeated Jack Brisco for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in Miami, when Dory failed to appear for a title shot. He began a 14-month title reign defending the title against Jack Brisco, Dusty Rhodes, Carlos Rocha, Giant Baba, and Pat O’Connor
