NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the teams in top four race are; Newcastle, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brighton. Fans of these clubs are hoping that their clubs make it to the UEFA champions league next season, especially Manchester United and Liverpool FC fans.

Currently, Liverpool is a point behind Manchester United who have a game in hand, and three points behind Newcastle who are in third position with a game in hand. Liverpool fans are hoping that out-of-form Manchester United will drop points in their remaining matches and optimistic that in-form Liverpool can capitalise.

As it stands on the matches fixture table, Liverpool have 3 games left to play, Manchester United – 4, Tottenham – 3, Newcastle – 4, and Brighton have 5 games left.

Entertainment: Falz undergoes surgery

The Internet went buzzing on Thursday, as popular Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, better known as Falz, sought prayer after undergoing knee surgery in the United Kingdom.

Falz took to his Instagram page to narrate how he sustained an injury on his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), NRTC WEEKLY gathered.

Reacting, some fans, especially netizens who felt pain for the songwriter wished him well and a quick recovery.

In their prayers, they said his current situation wouldn’t be a long journey since it was not carried out in Nigeria.

Even if not for anything, he stood for Nigerian youths in thick and thin. He fought as a voice for the voiceless Nigerians, hence, he deserved a quick recovery.”

Ademola Adeleke wins at Supreme Court

After Tribunal and Appeal Court, the Supreme Court affirmed Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the validly elected Governor of Osun State.

Ademola Adeleke (NRTC LIBRARY)

The apex court, in its lead judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, dismissed an appeal that was lodged against Adeleke’s election victory by the former governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Adeleke’s validatory was a thing of joy for many Osun State citizens because it was glaring that the Appellant did not provide evidence, any BVAS, but sought to prove over-voting using a report of examination of INEC’s database or backend server.

The court heard held that though Oyetola alleged that Adeleke won through over-voting that occurred in 774 polling units in the state, he, however, failed to produce any Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, BVAS, a machine that was used in any of the polling units to prove his allegation.

NRTC WEEKLY findings revealed that Oyetola defeated Adeleke in the 2018 governorship election in court over alleged fake certificates and others.

Reacting via his social media handles, superstar Afrobeat and a cousin to the governor, David Adekele popularly known as Davido said his uncle’s victory was the will of the people.

NRTC WEEKLY also found out that the residents of Osun State were so excited the court gave them who they voted for.

“Court should judge cases based on fact not by the influence of money or anything that’s not justifiable.”

Metro: Ihedioha’s mum for burial

A few weeks ago NRTC WEEKLY reported that the immediate past governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha lost his mummy, Dame Dorothy Ihedioha.

NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the remains of Dame Dorothy Ihedioha have been slated for burial on June 16.

The past governor’s mother will be laid to rest after a service of song at St James Anglican Church in Asokoro, Abuja on June 6, 2023. Followed by a funeral service at St Peter’s Anglican Church at Mbutu, Mbaise, Imo State on June 16, according to a statement signed by Ihedioha.

Dame Ihedioha transited to glory in Abuja on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the age of 90. The family said they are still mourning the irreparable loss, but prayed to Almighty God for her enduring legacies and the blessing of a place.

Business: Otedola and Elumelu saga

The internet went agog as billionaire businessmen, Femi Otedola and Tony Elumelu made some allegations against themselves.

Tony Elumelu
Femi Otedola

Otedola in a statement said that the Chairman of Transcorp, Tony Elumelu when he was Director of Standard Trust Bank. He [Elumelu] approached him to get funds to acquire UBA in 2014 gave him $20m, which was N2bn at that time to buy the necessary shares in UBA for the acquisition.

He said when he became chairman of Transcorp Hotel in 2007 with a shareholding of five per cent and unknowingly, Tony gradually started buying shares quietly and in 2008, he went bankrupt in Nigeria.

Otedola accused Tony of taking his shares in UBA to service the interest on his loans and also took over his shares in Africa Finance Corporation, where he was the largest shareholder.

He said during the trying time, Albert Okumagba informed him about an American firm interested in acquiring his shares in Transcorp, but the supposed American firm turned out to be Tony Elumelu after he accepted to sell it.

He also disclosed that Tony went behind him to bid for Ughelli and he outbid him by offering to buy the plant for $300m after he discussed going into the power business, specifically Ughelli Power Plant.

NRTC WEEKLY confirmed that the Chairman of Transcorp Group, Tony Elumelu, did not comment on the development.

Reacting, Nigerians, especially Twitter users expressed shock that such things are happening between business moguls.

They added that nobody is comfortable with their present condition because the duo makes the business just all about love, the game of hard past relationships when toxic.

“These guys are fighting in billionaire manjers, no attack to personality as a Nigerian who buys and sells state-owned resources at a giveaway fee.

This is no news, it’s a family business because we only heard Femi’s account and Tony’s side has not been heard.”

Here, the cotton of this week’s episode of NRTC WEEKLY will drop. Join us for another edition next week as we take you around the trending stories in Nigeria.

Afrobeats genre was developed in the 1960s and 1970s, and its origin was credited to Fela Anikulapo Kuti. It is a mélange of fuji music and high life, garnished with funk and American jazz. Its defining characteristics are melodic beats, long instrumental solos, big bands, and intricate jazzy rythmn.

Nigeria is reputed as having the largest entertainment industry with its afrobeat singers leading the way in Africa.

But, judging who is better among the top afrobeat artistes who are currently making waves in the industry seems a herculean task. However, to determine who is doing better than others depends on three big criteria, and every music aficionado would agree with these criteria.

These are notable international recognition/collaborations, labels/awards for moving the afrobeat genre to its Promised Land, and most streamed song or album.

On the international scene, Burna Boy’s album Twice as Tall topped No 1 in the World Record Albums category on Billboard charts.

The Billboard charts tabulate the relative weekly popularity of songs and albums in the United States and elsewhere. The results are published in Billboard magazine.

Wizkid, however, had an unprecedented record in 2016 when he featured Drake alongside Kyla on the hit song One Dance. In 2019, Beyoncé and Wizkid featured their song for the Lion King. Essence also featured Justin Bieber and Tems and the song has also received several awards.

Davido, in his music career, has featured Chris Brown (Blow My MInd), Meek Mill (Fans Mi), Summer Walker (D & G), Popcan (Risky) and many other international artistes.

Davido has also been nominated and received many local and African awards, such as Kora Awards, BET awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, but he is yet to clinch the Grammy Awards like Burna Boy (for his album Twice as Tall in the Best Global Music Album category) and Wizkid (for Brown Skin Girl in the Best Music Video category).

The Grammys, as they are commonly known, are meant to recognize spectacular work in the music industry.

A Grammy Award is any of a series of awards presented each year in the United States by either the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences or the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. It is notable because it is in the international scene.

As of October, Burna Boy is the second most highest streamed artiste after Rema on Spotify by Nigerian GenZ, with Wizkid and Davido following him behind.

Currently, Davido has 25.7M followers, followed by Wizkid who has 15.6M followers and Burna Boy who has 12.1M followers.

These three artistes, Wizkid, Davido and BurnaBoy, who have a special bias for afrobeats genre are making giant strides on international scene and are reputed as leading kings of afrobeats.

To determine who is better among them also depends on people’s tastes, preferences and how much or long any of them can hold their fans mesmerized by every song/album they release.

They are relentless, formidable, and are currently refining their craft, although Wizkid recently came under heavy criticism for his newly released song, “Bad To Me”, because these people believe the Wizkid of yesterday has not evolved so much to acclimatize himself with the current taste in the entertainment industry.
