As the deadline for free Blue badge removal from the popular microblogging site, Twitter elapsed, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk, has begun the removal of thousands of verification check marks.
NRTC checks showed that some public figures in the music industry and political space were unspared from Musk’s cleansing decision.
NRTC found out that Nigeria President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, People Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate of the just concluded February 25th election, Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party (LP)Peter Obi verification badges were removed on Twitter.

In the music industry were: Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, and other singers.
Nigerian economist, and Chairman Heirs Holdings, Transcorp, Anthony Onyemaechi Elumelu and Femi Otedola, a Nigerian businessman and former chairman of Forte Oil PLC, who is currently executive chairman of Geregu Power PLC were also on the list.
Further checks revealed that former president of the United StatesDonald Trump, Davido, and Al-Nassr striker, Cristiano Ronaldo also lost their blue verification tags.

This may be a result of the non-payment of their verification subscription fee announced by Twitter CEO, Elon Musk.As of press time, the removal of blue ticks is still ongoing.
Reports have it that thousands of users’ blue ticks have been removed as part of Musk’s efforts to get rid of the so-called “lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark.”
Musk tweeted early this month that the “Final date for removing legacy blue checks is April 20.”
