Popular South African rapper Nasty C has praised Nigerian music star Wizkid for helping African music gain wider international recognition.
Speaking during a podcast interview, the rapper said Wizkid’s 2016 collaboration with Canadian superstar Drake on the hit song One Dance played a major role in opening global opportunities for African artistes.
According to him, the success of the song increased the commercial value of Afrobeats and even influenced some rappers to move into the genre.

“Wizkid and Drake collaboration on ‘One Dance’ opened the door for African artists. After the collaboration, African music received a significant boost. During some of my interviews in Nigeria and Ghana, the hosts told me that some rappers were even switching to Afrobeats because of how lucrative it has become after Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake,” he said.

The globally successful track, which also featured British singer Kyla, became the first song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify, earning a Guinness World Record.
Blending Afrobeats, dancehall, and pop influences, the song is widely regarded as one of the records that helped push Afrobeats to a global audience.
Drake had previously acknowledged Wizkid’s major contribution to the song, with the Nigerian star receiving credits as a co-songwriter, co-producer, and performer.
