In a bold political statement ahead of the APC governorship primaries, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has thrown his weight behind Abdulfatai Seriki to succeed him as governor of Kwara State.
The statement came just a few days to the eagerly awaited APC governorship primaries set for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
According to AbdulRazaq, the choice was arrived at after extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders and APC party officials in the state.
He referred to Seriki as an able-bodied, people-friendly and experienced politician with strong appeal among APC party members.

He said Seriki is a leader that will be able to maintain the momentum of the administration and broaden its influence in the various communities in the state.
“I have no doubt of his ability and am certain that his emergence will be for the best interest of our state at this time,” said the governor.
This is coming at a time when there are many aspirants for the APC ticket, with 16 persons still in the running for the position.
Although he endorsed Seriki, AbdulRazaq assured that the party’s democratic process will go on uninterrupted.

He confirmed that all aspirants are qualified to participate in the primaries and urged party members to conduct themselves in a disciplined manner.
Call for party unity
The governor appealed to APC members to align themselves with a consensus that would help the party consolidate its position before the general election.
He explained that his choice does not undermine the qualification of the other contestants who are equally competent.
He added that the focus should be on achieving continuity, stability, and development in the state.

Ahead of Thursday’s voting, the endorsement by the outgoing governor could bring about new dynamics within the party.
With this endorsement, Seriki who is a holder of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) goes into the primaries with a lot of impetus.
