Wizkid releases new album “Morayo” in honour of late Mother

Nigerian Afrobeats Grammy Awarding artist Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, also known as Wizkid, released his much-awaited sixth studio album, Morayo, on the 22nd of November, 2024. An emotionally charged project named Love, Loss, and Legacy is dedicated to his mother Morayo Balogun, then takes the listeners along the rollercoaster of love, family loss, and transformation. This work shows the evolution of Wizkid not only as a musician but also personally and shows that Afrobeat is connected with music worldwide.

  • Brent Faiyaz on “Piece of My Heart,” a heartfelt exploration of vulnerability.
  • Jazmine Sullivan on “Bad For You,” adding sultry R&B layers.
  • Tiakola on “AprĆØs Minuit,” infusing French rap dynamics.
  • Rising vocalist AnaĆÆs on “Slow,” delivers a smooth and soulful duet.

These collaborations reflect Wizkid’s ability to create music that resonates across cultures while staying rooted in his Nigerian heritage.

Themes of Love, Loss, and Resilience

Morayo tells the listener much about personal experiences while properly interweaving everyday human emotions into the lyrics. Some of the songs, for instance, A Million Blessings, Pray are encouraging and hopeful and songs such as, Donā€™t Care and Lose, talk of the bitterness of break up and getting over it. This feature makes it clear why Wizkid has been enjoying diverse music fans because from this album one can easily identify dance hall songs like Kese (Dance) to a thoughtful song like Break Me Down.
