American Sha’Carri Richardson raced to victory in the 100m final that showcased an array of star athletes at the World Championships in Budapest. The win is her first major title.
The 23-year-old was competing in her first major final and she clocked a championship record 10.65 secs to claim victory.
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson took silver ahead of compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
Jackson, who is the reigning 200m champion, ran 10.72 secs. Meanwhile, record five-time champion Fraser-Pryce finished third in 10.77 secs.

Richardson had failed to secure automatic qualification for the final. She finished behind Jackson and Ivorian Marie-JosƩe Ta Lou in her semi-final.
At first glance, Jamaican duo Jackson and Fraser-Pryce surged ahead as expected as they were hot favourites. But just few metres to the finishing line, Richardson, out of nowhere, nicked that emotional victory from lane nine.
Overwhelmed, Richardson had her mouth wide open in disbelief as she starred at the big screen after the race.
When the results arrived, she was engulfed with emotion, celebrating her unprecedented win.
