Spain top, USA second, Nigeria now 36th in women’s football

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have climbed one place to 36th in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings. This reaffirms their status as Africa’s top‑ranked women’s national team.

Nigeria moved up from 37th in the December 2025 edition. This came after a narrow 1‑0 loss and a convincing 3‑1 victory in a two‑match friendly series against Cameroon in March. The win added 3.35 points, raising the Falcons’ total to 1602. However, this number is still slightly below the 1607 recorded in December.

Despite the points dip, Nigeria remain comfortably ahead of their African rivals. South Africa’s Banyana Banyana sit 58th. Additionally, Ghana’s Black Queens are 59th, Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses rank 62nd, and Zambia’s Copper Queens are 64th globally.

Globally, Spain retained the top spot, followed by the United States at No. 2. England overtook Germany for third place, while Japan climbed to fifth after winning the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
