The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the opening of registration for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates.
In a post shared on its official X account, WAEC explained that the exercise covers the Second Series of the private candidates’ examination for the year.
Registration commenced on May 4 and will close on July 31, 2026, with candidates expected to pay a fee of ₦37,000.
The council emphasized that the examination will be conducted exclusively as a Computer‑Based Examination (CBE), describing the move as part of ongoing reforms to improve efficiency and transparency.

WAEC also advised candidates to check with the nearest office in their state for available examination towns before completing registration.
“Candidates are strongly advised to complete their registration within the stipulated period, as no extension will be granted beyond July 31, 2026,” WAEC stated.

The WASSCE is WAEC’s flagship examination for senior secondary school students across West Africa, while the private candidates’ version offers an opportunity for those outside the school system to obtain the same qualification.
