Chelsea lead pursuit of Khadija Shaw as contract talks put City star on brink of shock exit

Khadija Shaw is edging closer to a dramatic summer switch, with Chelsea Women leading the race. Her potential exit from Manchester City Women could reshape the title landscape.

Chelsea are favourites to sign striker Shaw on a free transfer as an exit from Manchester City nears. Meanwhile, talks have stalled over a contract renewal, raising serious doubts.

The timing adds intrigue after City secured the Women’s Super League title. News of her imminent departure emerged just hours after celebrations began.

Despite positive negotiations earlier in the year, frustrations have grown steadily, with disagreement over contract length remaining the key stumbling block.

Contract breakdown opens door for Chelsea to land WSL’s deadliest striker

Chelsea are understood to have made the 29-year-old Jamaica international their priority target, with reports suggesting they are ready to offer improved terms.

The London side are understood to have offered at least one extra year on a contract than City were willing to sign up to.

Shaw initially had no wish to leave and hoped to retire at City. However, the breakdown in negotiations forced her to consider alternatives.

She has been the club’s top goalscorer for the past four seasons, and is set to win a third successive WSL Golden Boot after scoring 19 goals.

“I’m seeing reports of big players being linked to Chelsea and that’s normal,” said Chelsea Women’s coach Sonia Bompastor. “We are ambitious and we want to have a lot of top players.”

“Who wouldn’t have her on their personal wishlist? Someone cr*zy maybe!” she added.

Chelsea’s need for a striker is evident after injuries disrupted their attack. “We know at this level… it is really important to have a number nine,” Bompastor further stated.

For City, the situation is bittersweet after title success, and fans now face uncertainty over losing a player central to their dominance.

The move would add extra tension to their FA Cup clash, as it will also highlight shifting power dynamics within the WSL.

It remains an emotional crossroads for Shaw who had hoped to end her career at City but now faces a defining decision.
