Labour stung in local elections as Reform UK surges
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that the UK’s political landscape shifted after the Labour Party suffered losses in local and regional elections.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer is now under growing internal pressure to reassess the party’s direction after it lost control of several key councils, including its long-held 14-year dominance in Birmingham.
Much of the momentum went to Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, which secured more than 600 seats. Analysts say the results signal a fragmented “five-party politics” era taking shape in the UK.

Hormuz Oil shock sends global markets into unease
The tensions involving the US, Israel and Iran escalated, triggering what economists have dubbed the “Hormuz Oil Shock”, NRTC WEEKLY learnt.
Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz led to Iran imposing new transit fees on shipping, pushing fuel prices sharply higher and adding an estimated $20 billion to US fuel costs alone.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that the global economy may now be edging towards stagflation, where inflation rises even as growth slows.
In response, Saudi Arabia moved to protect its economy by redirecting parts of its $925 billion sovereign wealth reserves into domestic investment.
Meanwhile, Toyota reported a $4.3 billion hit to quarterly earnings, blaming supply chain disruptions linked to the ongoing instability.
Cruise outbreak triggers global concern
NRTC WEEKLY gathered that a luxury voyage aboard the MV Hondius turned into a health scare after a case of hantavirus was confirmed, forcing a quarantine in the Canary Islands.
Health authorities, including the World Health Organisation and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, moved quickly to reassure the public that the risk of wider spread remains extremely low.
