Meta and Anduril Industries are collaborating to develop advanced extended reality (XR) wearables for the U.S. military.

The new system, dubbed “Eagle Eye,” will incorporate sensors and AI to improve battlefield vision and interaction with AI-controlled systems.

This collaboration marks a significant shift in Meta’s involvement in defense technology, aligning with a broader trend of tech companies entering military sectors.

The project is privately funded, aiming to provide cost-effective solutions for the military without relying on taxpayer money.

Meta and Anduril have jointly bid on a U.S. Army contract valued at up to $100 million, part of a larger $22 billion military wearables initiative.

Even if the bid is unsuccessful, development of the XR technology will continue, targeting other defense applications.

The partnership also signifies a reconciliation between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Anduril founder Palmer Luckey, who was previously ousted from Facebook in 2016.

Luckey’s return to collaboration with Meta reflects a shared commitment to advancing national security through innovative technology.

This development underscores the evolving role of big tech in defense, as companies like Meta increasingly contribute to military innovation.
