Wizkid is the king of Afrobeats – Ayra Starr

Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has openly declared Wizkid as the leading figure in Afrobeats, calling him the “king” of the genre.

In an interview with Complex, Ayra addressed the ongoing debate about who best represents Afrobeats among Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.

She explained why she chose Wizkid for her hit track Gimme Dat, praising his unique style.

“Nobody else could have been right on that song [‘Gimme Dat’] aside from Wizkid. Even just his sonics and the sound, the chorus pattern feels very Wizkid; it feels very like sexy Afrobeats. And everybody knows Wizkid is the king of sexy Afrobeats,” she said.
