Eid-el-Kabir: Shettima rallies Nigerians behind reform agenda, urges ‘shared sacrifice’

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to look past ethnic, religious, and political divides.

He called for national unity and collective sacrifice as the country navigates a complex phase of structural transformation.

He appealed in his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message, released on Wednesday by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications.

Reflecting on the significance of the Islamic festival, Shettima noted that the foundational tenets of Eid-el-Kabir, faith, obedience, sacrifice, and compassion as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, remain essential to Nigeria’s search for long-term stability and economic growth.

Shettima described the holiday as a period for internal assessment and targeted charity.

“This is a period of sober reflection, a season of reaching out to the indigent among us, of building bridges of brotherhood and sisterhood”, Shettima stated.

“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us.”

Addressing the ongoing friction caused by recent governance policies, Shettima acknowledged that the current administration’s recovery plan places a heavy burden on citizens.

However, he maintained that these painful structural adjustments are unavoidable prerequisites for a functional state.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu remains focused on stabilising the macroeconomic environment, curbing deep-seated insecurity, creating jobs, and opening up fresh economic sectors.

“Our nation is undergoing a process of renewal and transformation aimed at securing a more stable and prosperous future for generations to come,” Shettima explained.

“While the reforms may require patience and sacrifice, they are necessary steps toward rebuilding a stronger Nigeria.”

He insisted that meaningful development cannot occur in an environment crippled by deep mutual suspicion and polarisation.

He urged citizens to form a unified front against the country’s overlapping crises of poverty, social disruption, and insecurity.

Reaffirming the Federal Government’s resolve to reclaim unstable territories, Shettima commended the continuous risks and sacrifices borne by members of the armed forces and allied security apparatuses.

“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come,” the Vice President added.

“Nigeria is steadily advancing on the path of peace, recovery and sustainable development.”
