Nottingham Forest sack Nuno Espirito Santo after three games as Ange Postecoglou nears shock return to Premier League management.

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with manager Nuno Espirito Santo just three matches into the 2025/26 Premier League season, despite his remarkable achievements last term.

The Portuguese coach, who took charge in December 2023, guided Forest to seventh place last season, earning them a spot in the UEFA Europa League and delivering their first semi-final appearance in the FA Cup in years.

However, cracks began to show when Nuno admitted publicly that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had “changed,” creating uncertainty about his future.

That admission proved costly, with the club swiftly making the decision to end his tenure after a 3-0 home defeat to West Ham before the international break.

Although the sacking shocked many, Forest still paid tribute to Nuno’s impact. In a statement, the club acknowledged that his role in last season’s historic campaign would “forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club.”

Postecoglou set for swift return to Premier League management

While Nuno departs, Forest have already lined up an experienced successor in former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou. The 60-year-old Australian was dismissed by Spurs earlier this year after a disastrous league campaign that ended with a 17th-place finish. Yet, his reputation remains intact after guiding Tottenham to a Europa League triumph, ending their long wait for silverware.

Postecoglou was spotted at Forest’s training ground on Tuesday. This signals how quickly negotiations are advancing. His imminent appointment could mark a new chapter for Forest as they aim to stabilise after a turbulent start to the season.

Currently sitting 10th in the table after one win, one draw, and one defeat, Forest are by no means in crisis. Still, the board appears eager to avoid unrest, especially with challenging fixtures ahead, starting with a trip to Arsenal this weekend.

Moreover, the decision shows the ambition of Evangelos Marinakis, who has never shied away from making bold calls to safeguard Forest’s progress. By moving swiftly for a manager with European pedigree, the club signals its intent to build on last season’s success rather than risk decline.

For fans, the departure of Nuno may sting, given his role in delivering unforgettable moments at the City Ground. Yet with Postecoglou waiting in the wings, Forest will hope that another era of bold football and strong leadership is about to begin.
