The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a new set of internal reforms aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and reducing the dominance of individual personalities in its affairs.

In a communiqué released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the resolutions were adopted during the second meeting of the NDC National Executive Committee (NEC).

Under the new directives, all elected officials representing the party must now consult with the NDC before taking major policy decisions or making appointments beyond their personal offices.

It maintained that the principle of party supremacy requires members to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions and agendas.

To further strengthen unity within its ranks, the party directed all affiliated NGOs and support groups to function strictly under the supervision and authority of the party.

The NDC also warned that it would no longer tolerate any organisation or group operating independently or in parallel with the party’s official structure.

According to the resolutions, party members must align their personal interests with the broader goals and direction of the NDC.

As part of efforts to improve accountability and transparency, the party made full disclosure of campaign funding compulsory.

The party resolved that candidates must declare all donations and identify every individual or organisation contributing to their campaigns.

The party further directed that all campaign funds must pass through approved party campaign accounts, while party officials would be held responsible for ensuring that such funds are used strictly for legitimate party activities.

To enforce the new principles, the NDC instructed its National Legal Adviser to head a committee tasked with drafting a Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates.

In response to signs of internal divisions arising from recent developments, the NDC also established a National Reconciliation Committee.
