Nigerian singer Timaya has stirred public debate after sharing his views on marriage and having children outside wedlock.
The “Dem Mama” crooner triggered backlash online after a video surfaced in which he suggested that having children outside marriage might be better, insisting that marriage itself does not always succeed.
In the now-viral clip, Timaya appeared alongside fellow singers Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, and Phyno. The two artistes were seen offering what looked like marital advice to Phyno during a conversation.
While speaking in Pidgin English, Timaya said, “Just born pikin, pikin go grow. This marriage thing no dey work,” a remark that drew varied reactions from people present in the video.
