Attack on Ifeanyi Ubah: Atiku, Sani, Sowore react


A presidential aspirant in the 2019 election, Omoyele Sowore has said those who murdered the security aides of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah must be brought to book.

This is following the murder of an unspecified number of police operatives attached to the lawmaker at Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area, Anambra State, by unidentified gunmen during an attack on the convoy of Senator Ubah.

Sources said the gunmen opened fire on the convoy, and police operatives in convoy responded. The gunmen may have been after the senator, but there is no evidence to prove this.

According to sources, information was gathered about the time of movement and takeoff. The policemen, who were about four in number were attacked and all their arms were collected.

The source further revealed that those that spearheaded that attack were about nine in number.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga insisted that the casualty figure remained unknown.

“Yes, there was an attack at Enugwu-Ukwu today, but the casualty figure is not clear. As I speak to you, the CP has personally led a team of men to the scene, and normalcy has been restored.”

Sowore, who described the attack as despicable said the gunmen must face the law.

“Attack on the convoy of Senator Ifeanyi Uba and the murder of his security detail is despicable. Assassins/assailants must be fished out and prosecuted,” he wrote.

The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has said there are lot of works to be done in restoring security.

Also reacting, former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani described it as tragic and unfortunate.

Ubah was elected to represent representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the red chamber during the 2019 election.
