The BB Naija reality show is nothing out of the blues but because it’s the first of its kind for the Nigerian audience, it continually thrills them. The first edition of the reality show premiered in 2009, as at that time, the use of technological devices was not really in vogue. But when the rebooted version came in 2017, the show was getting its audience progressively.
The popularity of the show grew during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Almost everyone was home idle so we literally bought anything to entertain ourselves. Now, the audience of BB Naija has been resilient in following up on the show year after year. Recently, it appears that we’re very interested in watching other people live their life. This explains the influx of lifestyle contents social media users consume.
Unfortunately, the timing of the show this year is actually wrong. Before the show started yesterday, people were interested in the betterment of the country but now their focus has shifted to a meaningless cause. Tweets have shifted from the nation’s condition to updates on a group of people living their lives.
Insensitive timing of the show would lead to decline in nation building drive
People are more interested in watching a group of people live their lives in a secluded place in pursuit of money. The irony of it is that, it is at the expense of the viewers’ productivity and resources. In different cases, political movies have portrayed the possibility of the government plotting with the entertainment industry. This plot can include an agenda to swerve the attention of the people from the things that matter. If Nigerians do not find this suspicious, it is left to them.

Moreover, the values propagated in the reality show are nowhere encouraging or beneficial to the economic growth of the country. Most workers will face the temptation of distraction at their workplaces. People who ought to focus on how to get the country better speculate which housemate is leaving the Big Brother House. We think it’s just for three months, that is, the period of the show. Actually, a wise person should know that a lot of deterioration can happen in three months.
The only set of people benefitting in the BBNaija Show is everyone but people who put a hold on their lives because of the show. I actually don’t see any bliss in watching people live their life, one reason why I don’t fancy lifestyle content creation. You’re literally watching people live their lives. Sometimes,the organizers manipulate the whole thing and folly is on viewers who believe it is real.
In conclusion,
I beseech those who know for real that the BBNaija reality show is not of utmost benefit to not waste their precious time in keeping track of the show. To think of it, I’m not being overly moralistic with this admonishment. Additionally, when we all resonate about it and agree that we’ve got better things to do than watching people live their life, then maybe we stand a chance to make our country progress.
