Ayo Fasanmi

It is no longer news that Pa Ayo Fasanmi died on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020 at the age of 94.

There has been a plethora of condolence messages. From the presidency, some governors, and other prominent political leaders.

Buhari, Tinubu, others extol virtues of late Pa Ayo Fasanmi

Late Pa Ayo Fasanmi gave up the ghost on Wednesday aged 94

Below are some of the condolence messages in honour of the late Afenire leader:

President Buhari

The President condoles with people and government of Osun and Ekiti States. The family members, friends and associates of the late elder statesman.who served as a legislator in both House of Representatives and Senate and distinguished himself politically by always standing for the truth, especially on issues related to the uplifting of the downtrodden.

President Buhari affirms that Chief Fasanmi’s wise counsels borne out of humility, deep reflection, diligent studies, and experience will be sorely missed by governments at different levels. As he regularly and willingly listened to leaders, and always had good advice on going forward.

“As an ardent follower and prodigy of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the President believes the fearless and consistent leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural and political organisation lived to serve his people and the nation, and the progressive ideals that he projected impacted greatly and provided a road map on development at state and federal levels.

President Muhammadu Buhari

Chief Ayo Adebanjo

I wasn’t aware that Fasanmi has died until you told me. He was a good friend. May heaven be his reward. He was a great nationalist and we fought together for independence. He was also one of the early foot soldiers of Chief Awolowo.

Pa Fasanmi was also part of the struggle for June 12. He was amongst those who encouraged Tinubu to leave our group and also followed him, but this doesn’t diminish his person. May his soul rest in peace.

Afenifere chieftain, Ayo Adebanjo

Prince Dapo Abiodun

His contributions to national development threw him up as not only a leader of Afenifere, the pan Yoruba socio-cultural organization but as a national hero. This is a very sad loss, indeed, but we cannot question God for calling him at this time.

Papa heroically leaves his marks, everywhere he was privileged to serve. He was a father in the true sense of the word. We cannot write the story of political development of the South West without dedicating a chapter to him and without recourse to the roles that he played. We appreciate the role that he played in building consensus around major issues concerning the region where his name will always come up for mention as a unifying and stabilizing factor.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

Like American civil rights leader, and Congressman John Lewis who was buried today (Thursday, July 30). Papa Fasanmi remained faithful to the truth for which he suffered greatly. Yet, no matter the cost, he never strayed from his principles. A brave man, he never flinched at the prospect of speaking truth to power.

Papa Fasoranti devoted himself toward progressive development and democratic advancement and his fine job has not been completed. The Nigeria of our dreams is still a work in progress. Papa Fasanmi struggled for that dream and supported those patriots, like President Muhammadu Buhari who has also toiled for the same goal. Let‘s all learn from Papa Fasanmi’s example, and join hands to move Nigeria towards the safe harbour of peace and prosperity.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu

Chief Reuben Fashoranti

Senator Fasanmi will be remembered as a firebrand Action Grouper who distinguished himself as a principled fighter. He stood for the ideals of our Leader, Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the days of siege.

As a UPN Senator in the Second Republic, he was very distinguished and his life was meritorious and would always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace.
