Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has congratulated the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on their remarkable feat of winning the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket for the fifth time in a row.

In a statement released by her Special Adviser on Media, Nneka Anibeze, Musawa hailed the team’s “outstanding performance” in Sunday’s final, where they overpowered Mali 78-64 at the Palais de Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

She described the victory as a reflection of the players’ commitment, resilience, and exceptional skill.

The minister noted that D’Tigress’s accomplishment is not only a personal triumph for the team but also a moment of national pride, highlighting Nigeria’s sporting excellence and potential on the global stage.

She expressed confidence that their success would inspire young Nigerians, especially female athletes, to aim high and represent the country with distinction.

“I am thrilled to see the D’Tigress bring home the Afrobasket trophy for a record-breaking fifth consecutive time! Their victory is a testament to the power of determination, teamwork, and Nigerian excellence. I congratulate each member of the team, their coaches, and everyone who has supported them on this incredible journey. This achievement will inspire a new generation of Nigerian athletes and the federal government looks forward to celebrating their triumph upon their return to Nigeria,” Musawa said.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to host the team at the Aso Rock Villa in recognition of their historic achievement.
