EFCC warns skit makers regarding unauthorized identity use

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to skit makers and social workers to refrain from unauthorized use of the commission’s identity in their activities.

The cautionary message was conveyed through a statement shared on Wednesday via X (formerly known as Twitter) by the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The advisory comes in response to a video titled “EFCC and Army Wahala,” which gained notable attention on various social media platforms.

EFCC stated that the video has prompted the commission to emphasize its cautionary message regarding the unauthorized and irresponsible use of its operational identities.

“EFCC and Army Wahala” is a caricature of the operational etiquette of the EFCC. The shameful characterization of supposed operatives of the Commission in the video unleashing terror on “suspects”, is not only embarrassing but indicative of a deliberate attempt to cast shadows on the image of the EFCC.

“Operatives of the EFCC are not bullies. They are trained as refined modern law enforcement officers rich in decency, civility, and respect for members of the public, including suspects of economic and financial crimes.”

The EFCC stipulates that individuals, including skit makers and social workers, who showcase their operational identities for any purpose will be subject to legal action.
