It was another thrilling weekend as Game Week 3 of the English Premier League kicked off, with teams playing their third round of fixtures.
Game Week 3 was exciting even though there were not as many goals as the preceding week. Still, there are lots of talking points – late dramas, comebacks, VAR controversies and more.
Hereās a quick review of how Game Week 3 went down.
Brighton and Hove Albion vs Manchester United: 2 -3
Late VAR drama denied Graham Potterās men a well-deserved point. And so the Red Devils grabbed all 3 points at the Amex stadium.
It was Unitedās first win of the season, keeping them from going further down the league table.
Crystal Palace vs Everton: 1 – 2
Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his goal-scoring run as Everton defeated Crystal Palace at home. The Toffees are on a good run, grabbing a 3rd straight win this season. The result placed Everton at the top of the table until Sunday evening.
West Bromwich Albion vs Chelsea: 3 -3
Frank Lampardās men were 3-0 down early on in the game. Second-half goals from Mason Mount, Hudson-Odoi and a late equalizer from Tammy Abraham helped grab a point at The Hawthorns.
This result keeps Chelsea in the top 10, while West Brom is just above the relegation zone with only one point from 3 games.
Burnley vs Southampton: 0 – 1
An early goal from Danny Ings against Burnley led Southampton to their first win of the season. The result sends Burnley down to the relegation zone as they are yet to grab any point this season.
Game Week 3 Sunday action
Sheffield United vs Leeds United: 0 -1
A late winner from Patrick Bamford secured all three points for Marcelo Bielsaās men against The Blades.
The result sends Leeds into 6th place and Sheffield to the bottom of the table.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United: 1 – 1
A late penalty conceded by Eric Dierās controversial handball cancelled out Spurs lead. This denied Jose Mourinho’s men their first home win of the season.
Manchester City vs Leicester City: 2 – 5
Leicester City stunned Pep Guardiolaās men at the Etihad, taking all three points in a 5-2 whopping. Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy grabbed his second hat trick against Man City in the contest.
City took the lead by scoring a 4th minute opener. However, the final result placed Leicester at the top of the table, ahead of Everton on goal difference.
West Ham United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: 4 – 0
An evening to forget for Nuno Espirito Santos’ men as the London side ran riot against them. Two goals from Jarrod Bowen, an own goal from Raul Jimenez and a late goal from Sebastien Haller put Wolves to the sword as they suffered their second defeat of the season.
Monday night action
Fulham vs Aston Villa: 0 – 3
The Cottagers were annihilated by Dean Smith’s men at Craven Cottage on Monday.
Villa went two goals up in the first 25 minutes through Jack Grealish and Conor Hourihane. The skipper punished the hosts in the 4th minute with a shot on the bounce after John McGinn’s clipped ball over the top caught them out. Hourihane doubled their lead through McGinn’s laid pass.
Tyrone Mings then rounded up the victory early in the second half, sneaking in behind a high Cottagers line to stab home Hourihane’s free-kick.
The win extends Villa’s unbeaten run to eight games, which include six wins, stretching back to last season.
Liverpool vs Arsenal: 3 – 1
Liverpool took its pound of flesh against Arsenal in the league clash on Monday night, beating the Gunners 3-1.
Arsenal went into the lead when Alexandre Lacazette took advantage of Andrew Robertson’s error to score at close-range.
