Germany vs Scotland Preview
Germany were eliminated from the group stage in two of the last three major tournaments. Julian Nagelsmann’s side will hope to make a very good impression of themselves, and possibly win the title.
When JĆ¼rgen Klinsmann’s Germany side hosted the 2006 World Cup, they defied the odds to reach the last four. Germany are already on three Euro Championship successes and are gunning for a record-breaking fourth.
Nagelsmann replaced Hansi Flick as head coach of Germany in 2023 but his early outings were not encouraging. His first impression gave that of a bleak future and little to hope for.
However, victories against France and the Netherlands back in March brought alive the hopes of fans. If Germany beat Scotland in Munich on Friday, the hope of the Germans would definitely be raised again.
Scotland had an impressive run in the qualifiers and are in high spirits ahead of the opener. Wins against three-time champions Spain, Norway and Georgia spurred Steve Clarke’s side to a successful qualifying campaign.
For record purposes, Clarke is the first manager to lead the Scotland to consecutive European Championships.
The Tartan Army are a compact but dangerous squad. Premier League players Scott McTominay Aston Villa skipper John McGinn are always at their scintillating best when turning out for the Tartan Army. McTominay was outstanding during the qualifiers, brilliantly returning seven goals in eight games.
It is now 25 years since Scotland last defeated Germany and they would be all out to upset the hosts.
