FRSC moves to prosecute TikToker Peller following Lagos car crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok content creator Habeeb “Peller” Hamzat following a road traffic incident linked to reckless driving and mobile phone use while behind the wheel.

The decision came a day after Peller was involved in a car crash in Lagos, an accident that resulted in his hospitalisation. Reports indicate the crash occurred after the influencer went live on TikTok while driving, an act the FRSC described as both unlawful and highly dangerous.

News Round The Clock (NRTC) had earlier reported that Peller was hospitalised following the Lagos crash, which sparked widespread reactions on social media. Subsequent accounts suggested the incident may have followed emotional distress stemming from an alleged breakup with his girlfriend, Amadou “Jarvis (Jadrolita) Aminata.

In a statement on Monday, signed by the FRSC’s Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed concern over a growing trend of reckless road use among celebrities, social media influencers, and content creators seeking online attention at the expense of public safety.

Mohammed directed the Lagos State Sector Command to commence prosecution proceedings against Peller in accordance with existing traffic laws, including offences relating to distracted and reckless driving.

Dismissing suggestions that memoranda of understanding (MoUs) or celebrity status could shield offenders from accountability, Mohammed warned that the FRSC would apply the full weight of the law against anyone found endangering lives on Nigerian roads.

He further called on actors’ guilds, entertainment associations, and content creator communities to rein in their members, urging influencers to use their platforms to promote responsible behaviour rather than recklessness, particularly among young Nigerians.

Mohammed reminded the public that roads are not studios or streaming platforms but shared public spaces governed by laws designed to protect lives. He reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer highways nationwide, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility demanding discipline, restraint, and respect for traffic regulations from all road users.
