Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved N1 billion for the construction of a new Senate Building at the main campus of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED).
The announcement was made by Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, in a statement, following the governor’s pledge to prioritise Ondo-owned tertiary institutions.
Governor Aiyedatiwa announced the funding during the institution’s 5th Convocation Ceremony on Thursday, underscoring his administration’s commitment to the university’s growth and success.

He commended the institution’s leadership and stakeholders for advancing medical education in Ondo State and celebrated the milestone of producing physicians within the state for the first time since its inception.
Addressing the graduating students, the governor urged them to uphold the values of excellence, compassion, and responsibility instilled in them by UNIMED and encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to healthcare and society.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the government’s dedication to providing essential infrastructure and resources to facilitate academic and professional pursuits in state-owned institutions.

Prior to the convocation, the governor commissioned several projects on the UNIMED campus, including the Multidisciplinary Laboratory Complex, Learning Resource Centre: Block 2, and the Kamomi Aketi Accelerated Water Scheme, aimed at enhancing learning environments and student welfare.
The Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Prof Ayodele Arowojolu, highlighted the institution’s progress and stressed the need for continued financial support for infrastructural development.
He said: āit is important to note that through the support of the Ondo State Government and the prudent management of the Internally Generated Revenue of the University, the Institution has developed tremendously within the last one year.Ā
āApart from the university programmes that had received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission and other regulatory bodies, the university infrastructural development has also been improved upon.”
Furthermore, Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Adesegun Olayiwola Fatusi, provided statistics on the graduating class, showcasing UNIMED’s commitment to academic excellence.
