The Kwara State Government has announced plans to deploy the Nigerian Army and newly trained forest guards to parts of the Edu and Ifelodun local government areas in a renewed effort to flush out criminal gangs responsible for violent crimes in the region.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made this known during a security briefing with key stakeholders from the Lafiagi axis of Kwara North, held in Ilorin, the state capital.
The meeting was attended by leaders of the Lafiagi Descendants’ Development Union (LADDU), led by Abdullahi Jibril Mohammed Lafiagi.
The governor acknowledged the growing concerns of the local communities and assured them of the government’s commitment to addressing the insecurity through a coordinated, multi-stakeholder approach.

The security meeting came as the Nigerian Army finalised plans to launch sustained operations targeting forests in Kwara North and South, which have reportedly served as hideouts for criminal elements.
The operation will also involve the state’s newly trained forest guards who will support efforts in isolated areas.
“These operations will rout the criminals from their hideouts and restore lasting calm in the affected areas, while care would be taken to prevent the violent elements from hibernating elsewhere,” he said.
“The government has been working with the Office of the National Security Adviser to eliminate these threats in parts of the state, especially in identified settlements in Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi.”
Governor AbdulRazaq further noted that while community concerns are valid, security interventions must be handled with careful planning, analysis, and execution to ensure lasting peace.
