Lagos endorses Tacha’s Guinness World Record makeover challenge

The Lagos State Government has declared its full support for Tacha Akide, media personality and entrepreneur, as she prepares to attempt a Guinness World Record for the highest number of cosmetic makeovers completed by one person in 24 hours.

The record-breaking trial will headline the Tacha Beauty Festival, a three-day event slated for October 10–12, 2025, at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture & History, Lagos.

Tacha has set her sights on achieving 150 makeovers within a single day, a feat that would not only earn her a Guinness World Record title but also spotlight Nigeria’s booming beauty industry.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Tourism, Idris Aregbe, praised the project for its global significance.

“This is more than a record attempt. It is a statement that Nigerian creativity and excellence can compete anywhere in the world,” Aregbe said.

“The Tacha Beauty Festival is about empowering talent, celebrating culture, and creating a space where beauty meets opportunity, and Lagos State is proud to support this project.”

According to organisers, the festival is designed as a blend of commerce, creativity, and cultural expression.

Beyond the makeover marathon, the event will host workshops, masterclasses, vendor exhibitions, and business sessions, alongside cultural showcases aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s beauty and lifestyle ecosystem.

Key highlights include professional training in makeup, skincare, wellness, and fashion; a vendor village for upcoming beauty brands; and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and creatives.

Tacha, who first rose to fame as a reality TV star, said the challenge represents more than personal ambition.

She described it as a chance to showcase Nigerian excellence globally while encouraging young talents to pursue bold dreams.

Nigeria has seen a surge of Guinness World Record achievements in recent years. Only last week, celebrity chef Hilda Baci officially secured the record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz), in partnership with Gino in Lagos.

Announcing her win on X (formerly Twitter), Baci wrote: “We have done it again #nigeria #hildabaci.”
