Food influencer and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, kicked off her bid to prepare the world’s biggest pot of Nigerian jollof rice on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

The historic attempt drew an overwhelming crowd, with Gen Zs, millennials, celebrities, and food lovers flooding the venue to witness the record-breaking effort.

Excitement quickly turned into a struggle at the gates as long queues formed. Many guests were delayed outside while security teams tried to control the eager crowd, checking registration emails before granting entry.

Speaking at the event, Baci revealed that the specially designed pot being used has a 22,619-litre capacity.

She initially aimed to fill 80 per cent of it but has since raised her goal.

She explained that “this would require about 5,278 kilogrammes of raw basmati rice, roughly 264 bags,” before announcing that her new target is “25,000 bags.”

As the cooking got underway, fans erupted in cheers, waving banners and chanting in support, creating a charged and celebratory atmosphere around the bold record attempt.

This latest challenge comes after Baci’s global recognition in 2023, when she set the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon. That achievement earned her international fame and positioned her as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated culinary figures.
