The former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko visited Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to express condolences for the passing of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on 27 December.
Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomed Mimiko, along with friends, former cabinet members, and political associates from all three Senatorial Districts of Ondo State, at the government house’s presidential lodge on Saturday.
They reflected on the longstanding friendship between Mimiko and the late Akeredolu, and Mimiko offered prayers for Akeredolu, the state, and his bereaved family.
“Governance in the circumstance with which you have found yourself is very challenging. The good Lord will stand by you at all times. We will continue to remember the Akeredolu family in our prayers. Thank you for receiving us”

In his reaction, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Mimiko, recognizing him as a leader and statesman with experience in governing Ondo state and understanding the essence of service.
The governor thanked the people of Ondo state for their prayers during this challenging time, emphasizing that Aketi’s legacies continue to leave a lasting mark.
“Only God can explain what had happened. Aketi lives on because of the legacies he has left behind. He pursued his conviction with great courage. He stood for the truth”
The governor pledged to continue the work of his predecessor, ensuring the lasting impact of the former leader’s initiatives. He urged Dr. Mimiko to engage in constructive collaboration to promote good governance in Ondo state.

On the entourage of the former governor were Hon. Joseph Akinlaja, a former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kola Ademujimi, former chief of staff, Hon. Dayo Awude, Engr. Gboye Adegbenro, Hon. Taye Afilaka, and others who were received by the Members of the Executive council in attendance, among whom were Commissioner for Regional Planning, Prince Boye Ologbese, Commissioner for Justice, Sir Charles Titiloye, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Mrs Olubunmi Oshadahun and others.
