NDC extends deadline for legislative, governorship interest forms

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms for several elective positions, while closing the process for presidential aspirants.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the party announced that aspirants seeking seats in the State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship elections now have until 12:00 midnight of May 24 to obtain their forms.

The earlier deadline was fixed for 6:00 p.m on May 17.

However, the party confirmed that the Expression of Interest window for the office of the president has closed.

Revised timetableFollowing the extension, the party released an updated timetable for the next stages of the process.

The screening of aspirants who have purchased and completed their Expression of Interest Forms will commence on Tuesday and end at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The NDC also stated that cleared aspirants will begin collecting and submitting their Nomination Forms from May 20.

The nomination process will close permanently on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The party stressed that it would not grant any further extension beyond the revised deadlines.

Screening requirements.

According to the statement, aspirants must appear for pre-qualification interviews and screening at designated venues nationwide.

Each aspirant is expected to submit six copies of the following documents: educational certificates, birth certificate or statutory declaration of age and four recent passport photographs.

Others are permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), valid NDC membership card and updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).

The National Secretary explained that the Screening Committee would assess aspirants beyond document verification.

According to him, the committee will consider the wishes of the electorate, local political realities, character, competence, and the overall capacity of each aspirant.

He added that the committee has also been directed to uphold the party’s affirmative action policy by ensuring fair consideration for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities (PLWDs).


The party further encouraged aspirants to pursue internal consensus where necessary, noting that only candidates who successfully scale the screening stage will qualify to purchase the final Nomination Forms.
