Nigeria needs peace and stability to move forward, Tinubu tells NGF

President Bola Tinubu has told the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) the imperative of ensuring peace and stability for Nigeria’s progress.

Addressing the NGF at his Lagos residence on Tuesday, President Tinubu stressed that Nigeria belongs to everyone, highlighting the collective responsibility to safeguard it.

He underscored the shared duty of the federal and sub-national governments in maintaining the nation’s peace and stability.

Discussing the 2024 Budget proposals with the National Assembly, the President informed the governors about a review meeting earlier in the day with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu.

President Tinubu emphasised the necessity for collaborative efforts between the federal and sub-national governments to drive rapid infrastructural development nationwide.

In response to recent tragic events in Plateau State, the President issued a stern directive to security agencies to halt the violence and intensify efforts in pursuing those responsible in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas.

He expressed condolences to the victims, stressing the sanctity of human life and urging a paradigm shift among those with conflicting beliefs, cautioning them about the inevitable consequences of their actions.

“We must be ready to protect our children and prepare them for the future,” the President firmly stated.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, conveyed solidarity with the government and the people of Plateau State.

“These are challenging times. It is not a walk in the park. Removing fuel subsidies had a great structural effect on the economy of the states. But we are confident that we will overcome these challenges and bounce back better,” he said.
